SCIENTIFIC ADVENTURES at The Learning Farm!
FIVE UNIT- IN DEPTH STUDY OF THE ANIMALS AT THE FARM!
Coming again April 3rd, 2013!!!

UNIT 1- Circulatory System: Use stethoscopes to compare and graph the various animals heart rates found on the farm. How are the animals systems different and the same? Observe a real animal heart and learn the structures, function and blood flow.

UNIT 2- Digestive Systems: Compare and contrast the variety of digestive systems on the farm. Explore the differences in teeth between all of the animals on the farm. ( carnivores, omnivores, herbivores) Make cheese with coagulant that originally came from a baby goat stomach.

UNIT 3- Nervous System: Sight, hearing, taste, brains. The farm animals vary in their natural abilities. Did you know sheep do not show pain? Make jewelry out of fish ear bones!

UNIT 4- Skeletal & Muscular Systems: Dissect a chicken wing and identify the structure and functions of ligaments, tendons, muscles and bones. Identify and compare cloven hoofed animals at the farm. Learn where the various cuts of meat are taken from on the animals. End the lesson with a chicken dance!

UNIT 5- Respiratory System: Compare the different respiratory systems of all the animals on the farm. Did you know chickens don't have diaphragms? Make a lung model which simulates the lungs!

Instructor Heather Callens is a state certified science teacher with
her masters degree in science and thirteen years experience
teaching high school science! Her enthusiastic,
creative approach to science reveals her love for
the subject. We are blessed to have her visiting in
Anchorage and we are thankful she has an interest
in helping expand our farm programs.
